Elderberry Schmear-up
Drumroll, please… behold my number one requested recipe, elderberry syrup. This is something I take almost every day, and when I’m feeling slightly under the weather multiple times a day. It will come in handy as your best preventative herbal buddy. So take notes and take spoonfuls. I truly hope you enjoy one of my all-time favorite herb girl hacks.
As always, much love, and remember, every BODY is different. Just because one plant works perfectly for ME, does not mean the same will be true for you. I am always available for consultations if you’re feeling like something’s not sitting quite right in your body.
Ingredients:
1 - 1.5 cups dried elderberries
1/2 cup cassia cinnamon
1/2 cup kava kava root
4 cups water
½ - 1 cup raw honey (adjust to your sweetness preference)
*consult with your doctor if pregnant and adding kava kava.
Instructions:
Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the elderberries and water.
Bring to a Boil: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-45 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced by about half.
Strain: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool slightly. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl or jar.
Add Honey: Let the strained liquid cool to lukewarm or colder (don't skip this IMPORTANT STEP to preserve the beneficial properties of raw honey). Stir in the honey until it is fully dissolved.
Store: Pour the elderberry syrup into a clean glass jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 months.
Dosage: Roughly 1 tablespoon for adults daily for immune support, or a similar dose 2-3 times a day when feeling under the weather. PS: This makes a beautiful tea when mixed in water.
Remember every BODY is different and not all herbs will work with/for your body. I'm always here for any questions you may have.
